Meeting of Friends of Ukraine centered down in a half-hour silent worship, prayed together for peace in Ukraine and in the world, for peaceful end of Russian aggression, and listened to a prepared ministry in English and Ukrainian. After wishing each other joyful and peaceful week Friends said goodbye and will meet again the next Sunday, on 27 October, at 2.30 pm Kyiv time.
We hold in the light victims of Russian aggression and all those who suffer from war, including Christian conscientious objectors to military service tortured for their legitimate requests for alternative nonmilitary service.
Prepared ministry by Yurii Sheliazhenko
Friends, this weekend in Kyiv there were explosions at night and it was impossible to sleep quietly. Russian attacks on other Ukrainian cities are continuing; we heard about Zaporizhzhia. Unfortunately, there were casualties.
We must overcome evil with good, and there were examples how unarmed Ukrainians stopped Russian tanks; but current lack of faith prevents us from moving forward and achieving peace by nonviolent action.
From a publication of human rights defending portal “Forum 18” we learned about tortures inflicted on Christians who ask for alternative nonmilitary service, the right enshrined in Constitution of Ukraine.
We will hold in light those who suffer from Russian aggression and from human rights violations because of war, because of the Russian aggression.
A heart aches after new mentions of nuclear weapons that can destroy all life on Earth, the very existence of which is a sin against the sanctity of life and commandment “thou shalt not kill”.
Thank God, Ukraine has given up nuclear weapons. Let’s pray that the aggressor state come to sense, stop threatening the world with the Kremlin nuclear bombs, or even better, withdraw Russian troops from Ukraine and give up nuclear weapons, as Ukraine have done.
Let’s hope for a peaceful end to the war.
I want to share with you two inspirational quotes about hope.
This is words of George Fox: “Hold fast the hope which anchors the soul, which is sure and steadfast, that you may float above the world’s sea.”
In epistle to Romans 15:13 it is said: may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in faith so that you overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Let’s hope that, listening to Jesus, the meek will enjoy eternal peace in kingdom of God on the Earth (Revelation 11:15, Psalms 37:11), so we will wait for a voice of truth the next half an hour in silent worship, according to the book of Revelation 8:1, and so, listening to quiet inner voice of Christ (Luke 17:21; 1 Corinthians 2:10-11) and seeking for inward light in our souls (John 8:12), we will hear and we will know to what a righteous path the Spirit of God leads children of God (Romans 8:14).
